Minutes for BitStorage meeting with IT maintenance 2007-12-20

Participants: Asger, Toke and Jens Henrik.

This meeting was a follow-up to the BitstorageAgreement from 2007-10-10.

Jens Henrik agreed to provide the following by mid-january 2008:

  • A bit storage as per the BitstorageAgreement

    • without generic upload-functionality
    • without authorization
    • without direct access to rigel
    • without granularity in storage guarantees
  • A test storage which behaves as the real storage, and with SSH-access, so that the files and system can be tampered with during tests. Without backup.

Some points about the Bitstorage was clarified:

  • Files can be stored and accessed with UTF-8 names if needed
  • The "real" upload (not part of the first release) will require storagetype-specific procedures. In reality this will involve machine-name, path and credidentials
  • Bulk uploads of huge amounts of data (Radio/TV, radioavismanuskripter, initial CD storage) will be arranged separately for each collection
  • Access to MD5 checksums and similar functionality will be through SSH
  • The web server frontend will use redirection for some files, proxy for other files

The BitStorage for DOMS will be based on an existing solution from Statens arkiver. The available SSH-commands will be

  • save) : save a file
  • save-md5) : save a file and get md5sum back
  • get-md5) : get md5sum of a file
  • approve) : approve a file
  • delete) : delete a file not appoved
  • get) : get a file
  • getmd5s) : report md5 sums of stored files
  • space-left) : report space left

Next meeting with Jens Henrik is scheduled for around january 10. 2008. The setup of BitStorage will commence after the meeting.
