A.1. Identify Data to Manage

State: Finished

Time used: 0 md.

Description

It is necessary to have an identification of the data we need to store in the DOMS, including data and metadata. Relevant attributes include metadata format, current metadata storage, file types and formats, and current file storage. An example of current metadata storage could be a relational database, or encoding of metadata in filenames. An example of current file storage could be a file share on our webservers or data on a SAN or even data only available on tape. For a few cases we know of original data only available on the workstation of some librarians.

The sources for data are current collections, as well as known upcoming collections. However, it is not part of this project to keep track of new collections in all eternity. This will be part of followup projects ingesting new collections

The analysis document contains references to the information identified during the pre-analysis project.
